This isn't a very well-designed water bottle. I bought it for my wife when she needed a new one, and after she complained about it for a week, I traded with her so I could use it for a couple days. I like that it's steel, I like the capacity, I like that it fits in most cupholders... but there are a lot of little problems with it that make it hard to use.

First, although 'large capacity' and 'fits in cupholders' are pros, when you put them together, you get a water bottle that falls out of things a lot, because it's too tall and top-heavy when full. It kept falling out of the cupholder in my Jeep on the way to work, and it fell out of the bottle holder in my bag a couple times as I was walking. So... the shape has advantages but is also kind of a problem.

Second, I know a bunch of people have commented on this, but I'll repeat that the nipple just doesn't work. Even if I carefully align it so that the airhole is pointing up, it's still hard to get good flow of water. Sure, I could practice and work around this, but why should I have to?

Third, there's a plastic cap over the nipple, which is good for keeping it clean, but I like to be able to dangle the water bottle by hooking my finger through the strap. I do this all the time with other water bottles when I've got my hands mostly full. But with this water bottle, the cap just pops off, so if you try to carry it by the strap, you drop it.

Water bottles are not cutting-edge technology. They should just work. This one has too many usability issues. They are all minor, but given the relatively low cost of a new water bottle, it's totally worth it to me to buy a different one that doesn't have any little problems. As a new technology at $90, I carefully read all the reviews to date, and even with all the grips I decided to purchase it. The medical dude who said that he put it on, pushed the button and it worked, and match up to his other equipment was the one that sold me. I would like to add my 2 cents on the complaints that I read:

1) it is uncomfortable or the batteries are too heavy: maybe a bit noticeable in both departments during the first minute or so, but that is about it. You don't need to wrap it too tight.

2) it does not calibrate quickly: In my tests it calibrated just as fast as the Planet Fitness machines I use, a tolerable wait of about 20 seconds. I did notice that if I turned it off while on a fitness machine, and then turned it back on when I was already in the "red zone", it does take longer to catch up to a peaked heart rate. No big deal to me, I will turn it on at the beginning of a work out. PS: it was right-on with those machines throughout my interval training.

3) The manual was not adequate: I did have a bit of trouble figuring out demand mode described on pages 10 and 11 so I wrote an e-mail to user support and got a well written response the same afternoon. That is great user support in my book. Their response is pasted at the end of my review.

4) sun light make it hard to read: I have not tried it outside yet but I am sure it is no worse then my car radio which I do have to shade with a hand from time to time.

To switch from "Continuous" to "On Demand" mode you must go into your personal data settings. This can be done by rapidly double clicking the "data" button (about as fast as you would double-click a computer mouse) and scrolling through the settings until you reach "view". From there, press the "mode" button until it reads "demand", press the "data" button again, scroll back to the main read out and your pulse will no longer display continuously. This watch is extremely difficult to program. I used the written instructions, downloaded the PDF manual, and tried the online tutorial. A combination of all three eventually did the trick after an hour of trial and error, but each one was fairly useless on its own. The instructions are not very detailed, for example - they never explain how to tell if the time is displayed in AM or PM. I had to change the display to 24hr in order to determine how it was set. Also, the instructions never explain what the pedometer sleep timer is or how to use it. I have never had so many problems setting up an electronic device before. Most of the time I barely need to follow the instructions to figure it out and this time I could barely figure it out with three different sets of instructions. This really needs to be fixed because most people don't have an hour to figure out how to access the Main Menu. I haven't even had a chance to use the watch yet, so hopefully they spent more time on the mechanics of the watch than they did explaining how to use it.
